Recently, research that was the domain of colleges and universities has expanded and become available to a broader community in academia such as high schools. This is in part due to research materials and services becoming cheap and easily accessible (for example via Amazon) and a large collection of scientific data and publications that is publicly available. This democratization of scientific resources has spurred a new generation of young minds to explore and conduct innovative and high-quality research. However, the avenues for such research to find their way to recognition has not kept up. We aim to address this shortfall, with the founding of Science Communications. As a premier science journal for high school research, it is our vision that Science Communications will become a home for young students’ research output with a profound impact on their early career development and will encourage and usher in new generations of thinkers that make this world a better place.
There are increasingly high-quality research studies conducted and written by students that deserve recognition and publication in journals with high scientific and publishing standards. Although several journals designed for high school student research exist, they do not meet the needs of high-quality articles written by the students: This is at least partially evidenced by the poor transparency in review, slow review/production procedures, and overwhelming commercials. Students therefore need a reliable place with a clear and simple procedure to publish their high-quality research. Science Communications aims to be such a place.
Science Communications is a journal specifically designed for high school students. We recognize that high school students perform high-quality research and want to share the results of their work with the world and get credit for the work on college applications, thus greatly increasing their chance of admission and scholarships. To help them showcase their work effectively, Science Communications has set in place editorial and production procedures to provide the highest standards of presentation, while ensuring rapid publication of accepted papers.
The topics covered by Science Communications are broad, from biological sciences, earth and environmental sciences, health sciences, and physical sciences, to business and commerce, humanities, scientific community and society, and social science. Science Communications will concentrate on the publication of research articles, reviews, preprints, and digital archives, but the Editors will always be interested to receive submissions of manuscripts outside this scope.
Finally, Science Communications is run by scientists. It is guided by a distinguished Advisory Board and edited by an outstanding international Editorial Board.
